My Volunteer Trip To Guatemala

Ever since I read the book “Start Something That Matters” by Blake Mycoskie (the Founder of TOMS shoes), I’ve wanted to find a way to contribute more to those in need. And while I have made donations to various causes, nothing has moved me. I haven’t been able to see first hand where my money has gone and the exact people it’s helped.

As I searched for a cause that fulfilled me more, I learned about Hug It Forward, an organization that facilitates education and awareness by empowering communities in Guatemala to build “bottle schools” – plastic bottles stuffed with inorganic trash.

I participated in my first bottle school trip in 2014 and it was a special, life changing trip for me. I loved getting to know the people of the communities. They don’t have much, but they are always very happy and thankful for what they do have. And there is no better feeling than making a difference in children’s lives.

I’m excited to go back on another trip in July of 2015 and this time I will be co-leading the trip!
